DAY 01: Drive Cairns to
Kuranda (265km)
Take delivery of your self drive car today and depart from Cairns south down
the Bruce Highway
to Innisfail from where you head inland nd up to the Atherton Tableland. Wander through the towns of Millaa Millaa, Malanda and
Yungaburra. Visit the 800 year old Curtain Fig Tree , take a cruise on the crater lakes of Lake Barrine an Lake Eacham. Drive on the Water Circuit out of Millaa Millaa , visit Zillie and Elinjaa Falls .
In Mareeba - perhaps stop for coffee tasting at The Coffee Works or Tichum Creek Coffee Farm . (time permitting , extend to Chillagoe to tour the copper smelter ruins , visit the rock art sites at Chillagoe - Mungana Caves National Park . )
At the Kennedy Highway turn right onto the Gillies Highway to reach Kuranda.
Overnight: Kuranda Rainforest Resort (Pole
Cabin).
DAY 02: Drive Kuranda to Mossman (120km)
Explore Kuranda Village, the market and Barron
Falls National Park before returning back along the Gillies Highway to Mareeba to join the
Peninsula Road to Mossman. Wander the tracks through thick rainforest or take a guided walk with Kuku-Yalanji Dreamtime Walks .
Overnight: Silky Oaks Lodge, Mossman River
Gorge.
DAY 03: Drive Mossman to Cape Tribulation
(70km)
 A short drive today up the Daintree Road . Stop at Daintree Village for a croc spotting cruise or catch a performance at the Karnak Playhouse and Rainforest Sanctuary . Cross the Daintree River by the chain ferry. Visit the beaches of Cape Kimberley, Cow Bay , Thornton and Noah enroute
to the quiet paradise of Cape Tribulation. . Visit Bat House , home to fruit bat orphans, or wander through the mangroves and rainforest on the Dubuji Boardwalk or take a cruise out to the reef on a catamaran
Overnight: Ferntree Rainforest Resort
(Villa).
DAY 04: Drive Cape Tribulation to Port Douglas
(90km)
A morning of further rainforest experience before
heading back to the ferry across the Daintree River. Proceed down the Daintree Road
through Mossman to arrive in Port Douglas in the afternoon.
Overnight: Treetops (Deluxe Room).
DAY 05: Drive Port Douglas to Cairns (70km)
Breakfast with the Birds in the natural setting of the Rainforest
Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary and explore Port Douglas before heading down the Captain Cook Coastal Highway to
Cairns and the Northern Beaches to drop off car at airport or extend at a beach Resort.
This Cairns to Cape Tribulation Self Drive itinerary can of course be
extended at any point to include additional accommodation and car rental. Rates
available for third person sharing car but with own room, or four persons sharing larger
car and two rooms.
