Kimberley Adventure self drive 

WET SEASON from November to April

DAY 01: Drive Darwin to Kakadu National Park (335km)

Head east along the Arnhem Highway. You will pass the Kakadu National Park Headquarters where you could stop for a briefing, and also the Adelaide River from where cruises operate to witness the jumping crocodiles.

Continue along the highway past Fogg dam to Jabiru for a lunch stop. Optional afternoon scenic flight? Proceed onwards to Cooinda for overnight.

Overnight: Gagudju Cooinda Lodge.  

Optional extra day to take a 4WD full day tour to Twin & Jim Jim Falls?

Kakadu

DAY 02: Drive Kakadu to Katherine (255km)

Transfer for 06.45 Two Hour Yellow Waters Billabong Cruise.  After the cruise continue southwards down the Kakadu Highway to Pine Creek, an historical mining township. From Pine Creek, join the Stuart Highway south to Katherine.

Overnight: Frontier Katherine.

DAY 03: (1) Drive Katherine to Darwin (315km)

Drive to Katherine Gorge for 09.00 4 hour cruise between sheer canyon walls. After the cruise depart north back up the Stuart Highway and if time permits a stop can be made at Lichfield Park en-route to Darwin for overnight.

DAY 04: Kununurra to Halls Creek (360km)

After your morning flight depart down the Northern Highway to Halls Creek, an original Gold Rush town.

Overnight: Kimberley Hotel.

 

DAY 05: Halls Creek to Fitzroy Crossing (296km)

Continue west stopping at Wolf Creek Meteorite Crater and China Wall before arriving into Fitzroy Crossing.

Overnight: Fitzroy River Lodge.

DAY 06: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome (395km)

This morning take a cruise along the Fitzroy River in Geike Gorge National Park before proceeding west along the highway to arrive in Broome.

Overnight: (A) Cable Beach Club Studio or (B) Mangrove Hotel. 

DAY 07: Broome

Drop-off car. Courtesy transfer to the airport for onwards flight or extend your stay in Broome

DRY SEASON from May to October

After the cruise depart south-west down the Victoria Highway to Timer Creek stopping at Victoria River en-route.

Overnight: Circle F Motel.

DAY 04: Timber Creek to Kununurra (230km)

Continue into Western Australia and the Kimberley Region.

Overnight: Mercure Inn.

DAY 05: Kununurra to El Questro (100km)

This morning take an 09.00 Diamond Class 2 Hour Scenic Flight over Lake Argyle and the Bungle Bungle Mountains. After your flight, explore the scenery of the Gibb River Road and Emma Gorge en-route to El Questro cattle station.

Overnight: El Questro Bungalow.

Kununurra

DAY 06: El Questro to Mount Elizabeth (280km)Emma Gorge

Continue west travelling through Rollie's Jump Up, Jack's Waterhole, Gregory Jump Up, across the Pentecost River.

Overnight: Mt. Elizabeth Station.

DAY 07: Mount Elizabeth to Derby (365km)

Today travel through Barnett River, Manning, Adcock, and Windjana Gorges, Tunnel Creek before arriving into Derby.

Overnight: King Sound Resort.

DAY 08: Derby to Broome (225km)

Arrive into Broome by lunchtime to explore this historical town and fabled Cable Beach.

Overnight: (A) Cable Beach Club Studio or (B) Mangrove Hotel.

 

DAY 09: Broome

Drop-off car. Courtesy transfer to the airport for onwards flight or extend your stay in Broome.
