Perth to Margaret River self drive

DAY 01: Drive Perth to Bunbury (180km) or drive to Margaret River.

Tavel southwest out of the city to visit the historic port of Fremantle. Departing Fremantle join the Old Coast Road passing through Mandurah to arrive in Bunbury, a busy port on the Indian Ocean where a friendly school of dolphins enjoys the company of visitors.

Overnight: Lord Forest Hotel.

DAY 02: Bunbury to Margaret River (100km)

Depart Bunbury and travel south on the Bussell Highway though the Tuart Forest National Park to the town of Bussleton. Leave the Bussell Highway and turn onto Caves Road to travel along the beautiful Geographe Bay coast to Dunsborough. A detour to Cape Naturaliste Lookout (30km) is much recommended before you arrive into Margaret River.

Overnight: Gilgara Homestead.

 

 

DAY 03: Margaret River to Pemberton (200km)

This morning visit some of the nearby famous wineries and the limestone Mammoth & Lake Caves before departing along the Bussell Highway to Karridale where you turn onto the Brockman Highway to reach the town of Nannup. At this point turn south onto the Vasse Highway to arrive into Pemberton which is steeped in timber lore and is the best place to experience the magic of the magnificent Karri forests.

Overnight: Karri Valley Chalet/Forest Lodge Chalet.

DAY 04: Pemberton to Albany (240km)

Depart from Pemberton passing through the Valley of the Giants and join the South Western Highway to head south along the coast visiting Conspicious Beach, William Bay & West Cape Howe National Parks. A stop should be made at the farming town of Denmark for arts, crafts, cafés and wineries before arriving into Albany.

This is the dramatic Great Southern Ocean Coast where you will find The Gap, Natural Bridge formations and the Blowholes.

Overnight: Esplanade Hotel.

Albany , Western Australia

DAY 05: Albany to Perth (400km)

A last panoramic view of King George Sound before heading inland on the Albany Highway to Mt. Barker and the majestic Sterling Range National Park. From here it is a comfortable drive across the Wheatbelt back to Perth.
