DAY 01: Melbourne to Apollo Bay (210km)Depart Melbourne south west down the Princes Highway to Geelong. At this point you may like to deviate to Queenscliff and the Bellarine Peninsula before joining the Surf Coast Highway to the surfing resort of Torquay. Now join the Great Ocean Road travelling through Anglesea and Lorne to Apollo Bay. Overnight: Claerwen Retreat.
DAY 02: Apollo Bay to Port Fairy (190km)Explore Orway National Park before proceeding along the Great Ocean Road and the Shipwreck Coast travelling through Port Campbell before passing "London Bridge", "The Arch" and the "Twelve Apostles". At the town of Warrnambool the Great Ocean Road end and you rejoin the Princes Highway to Port Fairy. Overnight: Gobles Mill House or Merrijig Inn.
DAY 03: Port Fairy to Glenisla (200km)Head north on the Hamilton Road. You may wish to stop in Hamilton which is a famous art centre, before continuing north on the Henry Highway through Cavendish to reach Glenisla which lies on the western border of the rugged Grampians National Park. Overnight: Glenisla Homestead.
DAY 04: Glenisla to Padthaway (220km) (or Melbourne via Ballarat)Depart this morning via the East-West Road to the town of Balmoral from where you head through Harrow to reach Edenthorpe. At Edenthorpe join the Wimmera Highway to travel west across the border into South Australia. Head on to the town of Naracoorte where you may wish to detour to explore the Naracoorte Caves. Proceed north west on the Keith Highway to Padthaway. Overnight: Padthaway Estate.
DAY 05: Padthaway to Adelaide (365km)Take the Keith Highway to Keith from where you take the Dukes Highway travelling through Tintinara and Tailem until you reach Murray Bridge. At this point it is an easy drive along the South East Freeway into Adelaide. Overnight: Georgia Mews & Coach House, Kent Town.
DAY 06: AdelaideDrop off car in the city or at airport, or extend your stay in Adelaide perhaps with a visit to Barossa Valley & the Murray River? The cost per person shall include 5 days self-drive medium car, unlimited mileage and CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), plus 5 nights twin sharing accommodation. The itinerary can of course be extended at any point to include additional accommodation and car rental. Rates are available for third person sharing car but with own room, or four persons sharing larger car but with two rooms. |
