This former British Colony handed back on 30 June 1997 is the gateway to Southern China and designated a Special Administrative Region. It is the finest example of East meets West, where modern finance & commerce coexists with ancient Chinese traditions. A visit to Hong Kong is an unforgetable experience. There is so much to see and do in Hong Kong and the public transport system is so easy to use.    Every visitor should cross between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island at least once by the famous  Star Ferry. The subway system (MTR) covers Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and ventures into the New Territories.

 

From each subway station one can take a local bus, minibus, or taxi

to your destination if it is too far to walk. If you are on Hong Kong Island then a ride on the famous trains is another must.  On Hong Kong Island one should visit Victoria Peak for the territory’s most spectacular view, then Ocean Park Complex, Aberdeen harbour, Stanley Market and Repulse

Bay at least.

 

At night there are numerous restaurants and shops around Causeway Bay and for entertainment there are several bars and clubs in the Wanchai area. Accommodation on the island varies from tourist class hotels like the Empire Hotel or Wharney Kowloon Peninsula is a shoppers paradise and during the day and at night there are numerous street markets in Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok areas.

All around the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon is a wide choice of hotel accommodation varying from tourist class like the Metropark Hotel, Deluxe properties like the Kowloon Shangri La or Grand Stanford Harbour View. Harbour Plaza Hotel in Hung Hom offers spectacular views at reasonable prices. Of course for  the ultimate experience there is always the world famous Peninsula Hotel.  South Pacific in the Wanchai area, first class hotels like the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay, to properties like the Island Shangri La, Grand Hyatt or the Mandarin Oriental.

No journey to Hong Kong is complete without a visit to the New Territories where there are a number of temples and small villages set in the countryside or secluded coves. Further afield are a number of Outlying Islands like Lantau, Peng Chau, Cheung Chau and Lamma Island where one will find many temples and fishing communities which have some superb seafood restaurants. Watertours offer a selection of cruises to various islands.

From Hong Kong one can venture further into China and there are various two day overland tours which include such places as Guangshou, Foshan, and Zhongshan, returning to Hong Kong via Macau. A three day tour can be arranged to visit Guilin which will include a five hour boat trip through the beautiful Li River scenery.

As a gateway to China and Southeast Asia, there are a number of flights into Hong Kong from Europe and from all over the entire region enabling Hong Kong to become a natural part of any multi-centre itinerary.
