Intoxicating and inimitable, India is
so wonderfully diverse that it does not compare with anywhere else in the world!
Your emotions will be challenged, but even the seasoned traveller will be enchanted by the
experience of a journey within this vast subcontinent.
Even so, India is not a destination to be taken lightly. We strongly recommend that you pack your sense of humour along with infinite patience. Seasons: Southwest summer monsoon begins around June and spreads northeast. North IndiaFrom the Himalayas down to the plains of the rivers Ganges and Yamuna, for many visitors North India and Dehli in particular is their introduction to India. Those visiting Dehli for the first time should allow two days to explore the splendid palaces, forts, tombs, mosques and monuments of Old & New Dehli.
For a taste of cooler hill stations one could head north to Kalkar and take the narrow gauge railcar up to Simla.
South India Those travelling from the north have the opportunity to include Bangalore, Mysore and the hill station of Ooty en-route, perhaps incorporating a visit to the wildlife sanctuaries of Bandipur and Mudumalai or Nagarhole. Having explored Cochin and Ernakulum one is driven down along to Allepey to join a backwater cruise to Kottayam. It is also possible to travel by private houseboat to Kottayam spending a few nights in this beautifully peaceful environment or maybe stay at the Coconut Lagoon Backwater Resort.
From Kottayam one proceeds into the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary for 2 nights at the Spice Village. There are morning and evening wildlife safaris to see the different species and a lake cruise. From Periyar one is driven to the hill station of Kodaikanal for overnight and local exploration. The next day the journey takes us to visit the famous temples in Madurai before proceeding to Tiruchirappalli for 2 nights. A full day visiting the temples of Thanjavur and Trichy should be included before transferring to the airport for onwards flight to either Madras or Colombo.
