The state also boasts the highest literacy rate in the country.. The cuisine of Kerala is vastly different from what you would find in the Northern, Western and Eastern parts of the country..

The natural scenery of the state of Kerala is bolstered by a variety of vegetation found in the land. The coconut trees form an inseparable part of the land. The Silent Valley National Park houses animals like the Langur and the Malabar Giant Squirrel. Birds like the Malabar Hornbill and the Brahminy Kite can also be observed at the Silent Valley National Park. The Vembanad Bird Sanctuary is another great place which you could visit when you travel to Kerala.

 

Kerala Hill Stations

The popular hill stations in Kerala include the Munnar, Wayanad and Idukki. At Munnar, Wayanad and Idukkil  where can visit some of the finest tea, rubber and spice plantations. The activities which you could pursue at the hill stations of Kerala include wildlife treks, nature walks, mountaineering and rock climbing. TAILOR MADE ITINERARY - KERALA

Day 01: Arrival Cochin

Arrive Cochin for 2 nights at the Brunton Boatyard Hotel.  

Day 02 :Cochin sightseeing

Full day sightseeing of Cochin . Tour of Fort Cochin visiting Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, St. Francis Church and the Chinese Fishing Nets.  In the evening watch a Kathakali Dance.

Kerala backwaters

Day 03: Cochin to Periyar

Morning drive down to Allepey to join the backwater cruise to Kottayam.  (Optional nights at Coconut Lagoon Backwater Resort   From Kottayam drive to Periyar Wildlife  Sanctuary for 2 nights at the Spice Village.  

Day 04: Periyar Munnar Hill Station

Morning wildlife safari by boat to see different species . Afterwards proceed to visit a spice plantation.

Day 05: Periyar to Kodaikanal

Morning drive from Periyar to the hill station of Kodaikanal for overnight at Carlton Hotel. Explore the hill town and lake. (Or we also recommend Munnar staying at the delightful Windermere Plantation & Retreat )

Day 06: Kodaikanal to Madurai

Proceed onwards to Madurai to visit the various famous Temples and overnight at the Ashok Hotel.

Elephants

Day 07: Madurai to Tiruchirapalli

Depart Madural via Puddukottai into Thanjavur to visit the temples and proceed to  Tiruchirapalli for 2 nights at Hotel Sangam.

Day 08: Tiruchirapalli

Full day sightseeing Tiruchirapalli and Sriangam.

 

Day 09: Tiruchirapalli to onward destination

Transfer to Tiruchirapalli airport for onwards flight to Madras or Colombo for onwards  scheduled connection.

This itinerary can be operated in reverse order to finish after Cochin for several nights relaxation at Coconut Lagoon Backwater Resort.

* Travellers extending from North India could visit Bangalore, Mysore & Ooty en-route to Cochin with optional visits to the wildlife sanctuaries of Bandipur, Mudumalai, or Nagarhole.

DAY 1 QUILON TO KAYAMKULAM

Arrive Quilon - set on the banks of the picturesque Asthtamudi Lake and board your exquisite houseboat...  Proceed towards Kayamkulam.  En-route see the coir making women as they soak and Kayamkulam Lakestretch coconut fibre and the biggest fishing harbour in India.  Stop at the town of Alumkadavu where long and traditional water barges are built Anchor at Kayamkulam Lake for the night.

DAY 2 KAYAMKULAM TO ALLEPPEY

After breakfast, depart for Alleppey - Venice of the East.  En-route Home Cooked Cuisinevisit a small village and the  Old Buddha statue "Kuramadi Kuttan".  Do not miss out on a ride into Kuttanad through simmering green paddy fields with tail wagging, head bobbing groups of ducks. Anchor near Alleppey for the night.  Make sure you sample Karimen and fresh toddy - the favourite fresh  water food and local spirit!

DAY 3 ALLEPPEY - KUMARAKOM

Morning departure for Kumarakom, en-route see the venue of the

famous Nehru Trophy Snake  Race and also make a visit to the Bird Sanctuary set in 14 acres of wooded land.  Arrive at Kumarakom set on the shores of enchanting Vembanad Lake for a stay at the Kerala HouseboatCoconut Lagoon  or anchor near Pathiramanal Island for another night on the boat.
